Learning Insights: Brief History of Computers

Computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out an arbitrary set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically (source: Wikipedia). Computers are very rampant nowadays. All ages know how to use it and even own one. We watched a short video about history of computers in my Computer class and learned several facts about it.

Around 300 BC, the Abacus used pebbles for addition and subtraction in Babylon. In 1930’s, the first computer invented to use the yes or no principle was called Z Computer. Then the Mark 1 was invented during WW 1 for ballistic calculations. In 1951, UNIVAC was invented. IBM entered the scene in 1953, they made a computer called 701 then improvised into 704. Because of IBM’s 704, programmers create the first easy programming language called FORTRAN. In 1960, IBM released the world’s fastest computer.

In 1980’s is the beginning of where modern computer starts to take place. In 1981, IBM released the IBM PC. The company Xerox made the XEROX Star 8010 that featured a Graphical User Interface in year 1980. Steve Job then founded Apple Computers, Inc. Steve Job visited Xerox and saw their GUI system. A  Xerox scientist who made the GUI gave the GUI he developed to Steve Jobs thus the released of Lisa in 1983. Apple then released Macintosh. Then here comes Bill Gate, who founded Microsoft.  Microsoft released Windows 1.0 in 1985. In 1987, they released Windows 2.0. Apple then released iMac. In 2001, things have changed when Apple release the Mac OSXMac OSX. It was Apple’s most powerful system. The Windows XP was released also on the same year. In 2007, Microsoft released Windows Vista then Windows 7 in 2009.

As I watched the given video, I can really tell that computer technology increased more in last 5 years than in last 100 years. Because of this advances, we can now do things easier. Salute to the inventors who contributed making such phenomenal machine!

Learning Insights: The Pirates of the Silicon Valley

The biggest success comes from every small step.” We all know that in today’s generation we only have the best, which means all or nothing. Simply because life is now easier for us considering our modern technology.

Before technology expanded, went deeper, and became a need in our everyday lives, we had a simple way of living: farming, fishing, carpentry, and many more. Now that we came to see and realize the modern reality, came the magic of technology. This made our lives easier. Machines were built for farming, fishing, and carpentry to be made easier. But the most important discovery and inventions were technologies used for networking and communication. Two of which are APPLE AND MICROSOFT.

The Pirates of the Silicon Valley tells about how Apple and Microsoft came to be today’s technological giants. It started when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak came into an idea to create a computer for everyone to use thus naming their company Apple. They don’t have any ideas how to start their big project so they went to other company to steal some ideas.  Apple became a big hit because of their invention that time. Then here comes two talented people Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer who wanted to make a company of their own (Microsoft). They partnered up with Steve Jobs. Little did Jobs and Wozniak know that Gates and Ballmer were planning to steal the Apple’s Operating System. Bill Gates is really a good liar since he convinced Steve Jobs that their intention is genuine. I remembered the actor that portrayed Bill Gates said and I quote, “Make your friends close and enemies closer.” Of course, Steve Jobs realized that Bill Gates developed Windows from software Apple had designed for their computers. The movie shows not only the development of these two computer companies, but also the rivalry between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

This film is a wonderful illustration of modern day entrepreneurs and gives us an inside look at the management style of both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. I remembered a quote from a well-known artist Pablo Picasso that, “Good artist copy, Great artist steal.” They can totally relate on that quote.

It still amazed me how Apple and Microsoft are now considered the technological giants of the world that started with such small steps. Apple which is now famous for its Mac PC’s and iPhone’s and Microsoft which is famous for its software, contributes a wide range of help to people by means of their work, education, and many more.  The film is really inspiring since it shows the men behind the machines, a story that shouldn’t be missed.

Fallacy of Chemistry

At first you were like Beryllium

A toxic dust in my life that makes me doom

Your face always made me ill

But you kept on annoying me still.

You always said that your intention is like Nitrogen,

Bland, clear, and genuine

Yet I see you as Boron,

Heart so black, hard and looks like a moron.

As day passes by, you seemed to glow

Like Neon that gave me light, I know

All of you burn as Sodium with yellow flame

Hopefully, you don’t treat this like a game.

Our relationship was so strong like Aluminum it’s called

All of our friends were appalled

We always stand and walk our problems,

There’s Calcium in our relationship, I proclaimed.

But all things comes to an end

Like Ununoctium in a periodic table of element

Our Magnesium feelings that flashes in light

Was now gone and had lost its bright.

You’re now a Flourine to me

Very bad for my health apparently

Those elemental relationships we had are all fallacy

I now realized, we never had a Chemistry

Don’t be discontented in many things

For it would lead to oneself’s misery

Don’t talk and use word that stings

It makes people to be bleak with dreary

Make adjustments and learn from challenges

Never fall apart and become a victim of circumstances

Always accept the truth that life presents to you

Unfortunate events are springboards for the better you

Strive hard to attain the highest level of happiness

Do it on your own terms and never at other’s expenses

 Because what the body achieves

is always what the mind believes

Wake up with a smile and full of determination

At the end of the day, you’ll be filled with satisfaction

Believe the possibility of the impossibility

Tell others, “I can. I will. End of the Story!”

Look for something positive each day

Don’t let the irrational part of soul to lead you astray

Learn to take some criticism

It helps you grow up and be on rythm

Be a good example to everyone

Don’t dream of lost opportunities and fall into oblivion

Create a grandest vision possible of life

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and hold such strife

This is a project of my FFP class in the University I attended. Enjoy! 😊

Make Friends in a Snap!

images (15)

LAUGH. A lot, out loud, and especially at yourself! Life is always more fun if you can laugh at all the silly and even not-so-silly things. And being able to laugh at yourself makes it easier for everyone to laugh with you, too.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO MAKE A FOOL OF YOUR SELF! If you’re always afraid to try, Messing it up means growing up. So don’t be pressured to be always perfect. You’ll also be easier to approach.

BE UP FOR ANY ADVENTURE! Pick an instrument. Join a club. Do something new! It’s nice to stay in your comfort zone, but the best way to expand your circle of friends is to jump right in. Don’t forget to smile. Just remember to….

BE A FRIEND! Even to someone you’ve just met. Treat others with kindness, no matter how hard it may seem. Mean and aloof people rarely make friends. So always….

BE INTERESTED! Ask questions and listen to them. Getting to know someone involves giving and taking. No one wants to be bored senseless with a, “Me, Me, Me!” monologue.

All you have to do is SHARE! – stories, jokes, and food. Everything’s better when you have someone to experience it with. So share the moment no matter how embarrassing it may be, crack that joke no matter how corny it seems to be, and split that cookie no matter how small it is.

Mathematical Love Dream

images (17)

At first we’re like two parallel lines,

That was destined not to meet each other

As day passes by and we don’t know,

That we’ll become a circle diameter.

When that day came and the theorem was changed,

A transversal came to meet us

And I suddenly felt in the interior of my heart,

That it was you and not Pythagoras.

The point came that we both knew,

That we were an angle of love

And we were fearful that somehow, somewhere,

A bisector will come to divide us.

“Boom” I was shocked, and really took a deep breath,

And I saw through my eyes that it was just a segment.

I pinched my arms and took a scream,

Then I realized that it was just a Mathematical Love Dream

Hail to the broken, hurt and torn!

Hail to the hypocrite, fake and scorned!

Wrath and pain let them wed,

The guilty and the culprit bury them dead!

The rope and the trigger, these are friends.

Angry tears streaming down the cheeks

Wipe them, there’s no room for the weak.

Scream your lungs out!

Exhale the loneliness, go and shout

Life is never a misery

But a celebration of everyone’s insanity

Toast to the savior of depression!

Toast to the queen of deception!

Be tearful not for sadness ends here.

Smile for the sun shines somewhere.

You are the hero of your own melancholy

You saved yourself from drowning lachrymosely.

Hail to the broken, hurt and torn!

Hail to the hypocrite, fake and scorned!

How Can I?

How can I forget you?

When you’re always on my mind

How can I say “I miss you”?

If you haven’t felt the way I do

How can I make my day?

After everything has turned to gray

How can I say ” stay”?

If you’ve already turned your back and walked away

How can I sleep tonight?

When you’re always the one I dream at night

How can I say that I’m alright?

When nothing seems to go out right

How can I move on?

If I’m still holding on to what is done

But tell me, how can I say “I love you”?

If your love for me is gone

Imagine a bird without a wing,

It’s feather were taken by the wind.

Imagine how cold the night could bring,

December wind’s thy was spinned.

I am as flightless as a bird could be,

Whenever you are not beside me.

Your eyes were too magnetic to me

Your skin I touched; I cannot resist.

Your smile shines so perfectly,

Thank God someone like you do exist.

Why do I fall and die hopelessly anyway?

I wandered why it happens when you’re thousand miles away

Can’t count the stars, just watch it glow,

Constantly flightless- can’t stand by my toe.

I’m weak, yes, it’s true

I am so flightless without you,

I wish you and I were Bella and Edward,

Forever for them is not so hard,

I love thee with all my heart.
